Convention Centre Rising
There is joy in our hearts each time we cross the Liffey and look at the rapidly rising frame of Convention Centre Dublin (CCD). It may have taken an interminably long time to pick the preferred tender, much to the disgust of the Dublin tourism industry, but the team at Treasury Holdings are finally set to open this long-awaited jewel of Spencer Dock in September 2010 And the physical structure isn't the only progress to report, the CCD sales force has been going great guns too, securing large-scale conferences such as the Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (3,000 delegates), the International Statistical Institute (3,000 delegates), the International Bar Association (3,000) and the Euroscience Open Forum (a whopping 8,000 delegates). So far, 16 events worth an anticipated €45m have been booked for the CCD and 93 provisional bookings have also been taken. Some 250 people are expected to be employed once the centre opens next year, and staff levels will rise to 500 for biq events.
